The commission involved adapting a building dating from 1832. The programme combined a freelancer’s home and workspace on the ground floor with rental accommodation above.
The deep, narrow footprint and succession of small rooms limited connections between spaces. Different floor heights and relationships with the garden, façade and roof called for individual layouts.
CcBcN Architecture reorganised circulation around compact service areas. Ground-floor working and domestic areas remained visually separate. In one rental layout, sleeping accommodation sits above the kitchen and bathroom; in another, separate bathroom and storage elements divide sleeping and living areas. The top-floor conversion groups the kitchen and bathroom in a corner, leaving an open interior with a mezzanine.
The completed floors provide varied living arrangements within the existing building. Retained masonry and timber sit alongside new partitions, storage and upper levels, adapting each interior to its intended use.
The drawings show the existing and proposed layouts, mezzanine plans and cross-sections for each floor.
